Ultra rare. Asahi Black Pentar SLR 35mm Takumar 2/55 Not Pentax but Pentar H2. There is no other !! Open to be proven otherwise : )
After
WWII, Zeiss Ikon was split into two companies: One in East Germany and the
other in West Germany, and they had trademark disputes over prewar product
brands. The name "Pentax" was purportedly retained by the West German
company, which, in turn, sold or licensed it to the Asahi Optical Company. But
the East German company, which later became part of Pentacon, claimed that it
had retained rights to the the "Pentax" name and asserted
exclusivity. Most countries recognized the legitimacy of the West German grant
to Asahi, but a few did not, including South Africa, Libya and a couple others.
In those territories, from about 1957, Asahi released their early pentaprism
SLRs using the alternate marques "Pentar", "Penta" and its
own "Asahiflex" instead, and such examples are uncommonly found
today. Eventually the "Pentax" trademark was settled in Asahi's favor
worldwide.
